Safety rules

Air rifles and pistols of any calibre which comply with the statutory limitations in force at the time may be used. Guns requiring a firearm certificate are not allowed.

Never point a gun at anyone or anything except a proper target.

Never shoot where you cannot see.

Never carry an uncased gun in a public place.

Never load a rifle or pistol unless it is pointing at or near a target.

The action of a rifle or pistol is to be kept un-cocked at all times when not actually in use.

The rifle or pistol is only loaded on the range, and when ready to fire is kept pointing down the range.

Do not touch other people's guns without their permission.

When on the plinking range firing is permitted only within the taped off area.

The following procedure MUST be adhered to when walking onto the plinking range:

  • Use the command "cease fire" to stop shooting.
  • Allow time for shooters to release ammunition already loaded.
  • Use the command "prove weapons".
  • On this command, members WILL show their gun to the person making the request and prove that it is safe.
  • You may then go on to the plinking range.
  • When off the range use the command "commence firing".

When on the field target ranges stay behind the taped areas.

The following whistle commands commands WILL be used and adhered to:

  • One long blast means stop shooting.
  • Two short blasts means commence shooting.
  • Three short blasts means go to the assistance of the whistler.

These rules are for your safety and are not meant to restrict your enjoyment. The rules have been taken from shoot rules of the British Field Target Association with which this club is affiliated. If you have any questions at all about the rules, please contact the secretary.

 

Official rules for members (charter)

The club shall be called Pontefract Air Rifle Club and this title shall be strictly adhered to at all times. The club shall have a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and other members. All officers shall be fully paid up members and may be Honorary.

The Club Committee shall consist of the Officers of the Club plus other members. The number of other members to be determined at the Annual General Meeting.

The secretary, at the request of any three members of the committee shall forthwith call a committee meeting on seven days notice. All officers and committee members shall hold office for one year and be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting.

The joining fee shall be £60 per annum Family membership £50 per annum Adult membership. £15 per annum junior membership. Subscription will be due on the 1st of January each year.

All members shall hold such licenses and certificates as are required by current legislation in order to lawfully engage in the form of sport they intend to pursue. No FAC weapons to be discharged at the club.

No person shall be allowed to participate in any club shooting activities unless he is a fully subscribed member or unless he is an official and occasional guest of the club fully approved by both chairman and secretary. Subject to full details of the guest being recorded contemporaneously at the time. Unrecorded guests are not covered under the terms of the club insurance. All legislation relating to juveniles possession of air weapons and appropriate supervision MUST be adhered to.

No person shall be allowed to use any land over which the club has shooting rights unless he is a fully subscribed member.

The committee's ruling shall be final in all respects relating to the administration of the club and the committee, from time to time, may make rules for the use and maintenance of the clubs rights and property.

The committee shall, on proof to its satisfaction and in its absolute discretion have the power to expel any member whomsoever whose conduct (whether by actor omission) it considers to be contrary to the best interests of the club or detrimental to the good name of the sport of shooting. The member concerned should be given the opportunity to appear before the committee to explain any alleged misconduct.

Under no circumstances whatsoever shall a member pass beyond the limits over which the club has permission to shoot except to recover game or wildfowl shot on or over the clubs land and then only with the previous consent of the adjoining occupier. In any such case the members' gun shall be left within the boundaries of land over which the club has permission to shoot. No live quarry to be shot on club property.

The shooting seasons shall be in accordance with current legislation.

Every member and officer shall clearly display a current membership card, which is not transferable and must be produced on demand for inspection by any officer, member of the police. Landowner or any authorized person.

The Chairman shall have the power to call a Special General Meeting on seven days notice state the purpose of such a SGM and also the secretary, on receipt of a written request signed by any six members, shall forthwith call on seven days notice an SGM. Any such request shall set out the reasons why such a special meeting is to be called and the notice convening the meeting shall state fully the business to be transacted thereat. No other business shall be transacted at such a meeting.

Members dogs must be kept under control and not allowed to interfere with the sport of others on the shoot. All members must also ensure that their dogs do not trespass or chase cattle or sheep.

Any member who is six months or more in arrears with his subscription may at the absolute discretion of the committee have his membership terminated, having first given prior warning.

The Annual General Meeting shall be held annually between December and January each year. Any amendments to the club rules can be made only at this meeting. Accounts shall be published to the members by way of the Treasurers report. Notice of the AGM shall be given to all members no less than 14 days before such a meeting. The notice shall contain the Agenda of the meeting.

It is the object of the club to promote and protect the sport of shooting, and Air rifle in particular and members shall at all times do all possible to further the aims of the sport.

It is the responsibility of every member to report any contravention of the rules to the Committee. The club shall hold no responsibility in respect of any accident or mishap that may arise out of the activity of members or visitors in any of the shooting ground.

Resolutions at all Committee and General Meetings shall be decided by a show of hands. The Chairman shall have the casting vote.

Every member shall be provided with a copy of the club rules and shall be bound by the same and by any alterations thereof.

Any member may introduce new members to the club. Guests may accompany members on any day. The fee of £1 per day is payable. Potential new members may only be classed as a guest for a maximum of 2 weeks. After such time full membership subscriptions apply.

The decision of the committee on any matter not specifically provided for in the rules shall be final.

In the event of the club being wound up and ceasing to exist the assets of the club shall be realized and after payment of the clubs just debts and expenses the balance of the monies raised (if any) shall be distributed in such a manner as the majority of the members present and voting at a general meeting of the club shall resolve.

The treasurer shall pay all monies received by him on behalf of the club into a current banking account in the name of the club and the treasurer shall sign all cheques drawn on such account and a member of the club appointed by the Committee. In addition, the treasurer shall keep complete and accurate records of all the financial accounts to be submitted to the club, at its annual general meeting together with a balance sheet certified by the committee.
